Your adventure begins at Lake Manyara, one of Tanzania’s smaller and less well known parks. The diverse ecosystems of this pint-sized park support an astonishing wealth of wildlife, including huge herds of elephants and rare tree-climbing lions. Next you’ll head to the Serengeti, or Ndutu if you travel between December and April, for a two-night stay close to the migration route.
The sight of thousands of stampeding animals is jaw-dropping, but so is the setting: the Serengeti was one of the world’s first UNESCO Heritage Sites, and its flamingo-filled lakes, shimmering orange sunsets and prowling big cats are the epitome of wild Africa. Finally, you’ll move onwards to the stunning surrounds of the Ngorongoro Crater, a lush, fertile landscape created three million years ago by a volcanic eruption that tore the land apart. As one of the very best places in Africa to see the Big Five, it provides the perfect finale to your time in Tanzania, as you head out into the crater in search of rhinos, lions, cheetahs and hippos.
