On this three-night adventure, you’ll immerse yourself in one of the world’s most famous festivals: the Pamplona Encierro. During the Running of the Bulls, daredevils race along an 850-metre course towards the city bullring, chased by the animals through narrow streets while spectators watch from the balconies above. The bull run is part of the nine-day festival of San Fermin, which honours the city’s first patron saint and is known for its all-night street parties.

The festivities kick off with the El Chupinazo, a celebration in Town Hall Square involving copious Champagne-spraying, which sets the tone for the festivities. Expect parades of giants and ‘big heads’ (who will either hit you, soak you with a sponge or shake your hand), plenty of drinks in the Cuesta Labrit (the bar-filled, traditional area around the bull ring) and fireworks illuminating the night skies. First made famous outside Spain by Ernest Hemingway, who referenced the bull run in the The Sun Also Rises, it was originally created as a way to drive bulls into the city and its bullring. Hemingway visited the festival several times over the course of his life.
