Follow this with time in seductive Rio de Janeiro, where we’ll take you hiking up Sugarloaf Mountain and zooming up Corcovado in a 4X4 to get close to Christ the Redeemer. After an action-packed week, savour three nights in the tropical paradise of Ilha Grande, an island ringed by pure-white, unspoilt beaches just an hour’s drive and boat ride from Rio. Trimmed with some of Brazil’s most spectacular white-sand beaches and topped by forest criss-crossed with walking trails, it’s car-free, cobbled and renowned for its laid-back atmosphere. With island activities including hiking, star-gazing, boat trips and caipirinha-sampling in low-key waterfront bars, it’s the ideal place to relax after a week of sightseeing.
Ilha Grande
Ilha Grande is a tropical paradise sitting just off the coast of Brazil, ringed by pure-white, unspoilt beaches. Most of the island is covered by Atlantic Rainforest, and with only one small town this paradise truly feels like an escape from the world. The dense vegetation, deserted beaches and complete lack of transportation (the island has no cars) make for a completely stress-free and beautifully disconnected experience. Despite the calm and quiet atmosphere, there's plenty to do here. If you want to relax and catch some sun, there's an abundance of empty beaches to relax on. And if you're looking for something more active, there's many a beautiful walk to take. Why not hike to Pico do Papagaio, the second highest point on the island, from which you'll get a jaw-dropping panoramic view. Or Candido Mendes Prison, an abandoned penitentiary now nestled alone in the midst of the lush jungle. Our chosen hotel is in a stunning location and has breakfast included and private transport from mainland Brazil directly to it. The perfect way to rest and recuperate before you head back home, this 4 day trip has no organised activities, meaning that your time on this beautiful island can be as relaxed or as active as you want it to be.
